PLEURAL SERVICES – YORK HOSPITAL

Our Pleural Service provides comprehensive, consultant-led assessment and management of the full spectrum of pleural conditions. The service is delivered by a dedicated multidisciplinary team comprising Consultant Respiratory Physicians, Physician Associates, and Advanced Clinical Practitioners, ensuring safe, timely, and high-quality care.

Procedures and Services Provided:

  1. Thoracic Ultrasound

Real-time ultrasound imaging to assess pleural fluid, guide safe procedures, and support rapid diagnostic decision-making.

  1. Pleural Procedures

  • Diagnostic pleural aspiration
  • Therapeutic pleural aspiration
  • Intercostal chest drain insertion
  • Indwelling pleural catheter (IPC) insertion for long-term outpatient management
  1. Day-Case Management of Pleural Effusions
