SCARBOROUGH HOSPITAL Patients who are referred to Scarborough Hospital go through the first assessment unit on arrival therefore patients should be advised that they will be going to hospital for assessment and not admission. There is now no requirement to contact the bed office prior to referring patients, (please direct patients to the Emergency Department). In first assessment a decision is made if the patient requires:
- Admission into the main inpatient bed base
- Treatment/tests in ED prior to discharge home
- Referral into ambulatory care for further management/treatment before discharge to home.
(Approx. 40% of referrals for admission who are seen in First Assessment are discharged home). Please note this change to process.
