CDC Spiro-Feno pathway (Hull ERY)

Definition/Description

The Community Diagnostic Respiratory Service provided by Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust aims are:

  • To provide diagnostic ARTP standard spirometry with interpretation
  • To enable you to manage patients with greater confidence in the community
  • To allow a more seamless service for our patients

The service will provide FeNO and spirometry with bronchodilator response, if clinically indicated. All the investigations will be reported by our respiratory physiologists trained (or working towards) ARTP certified standards.

Red Flag Symptoms

All other referrals should be by the normal route for accessing a Respiratory Opinion at Hull & East Yorkshire NHS Trust

Exclude red flags

  • Chest pain
  • Haemoptysis
  • Recurrent infection
  • Weightloss

Guidelines on Management

The aim of this service is to provide access to Respiratory Diagnostic Test to enable management of patients in primary care thus avoiding the need to follow traditional referral pathways.

Referral Criteria/Information

 

  • Ages 18+
  • To assess the presence of, or rule out, reversible/non-reversible airway disease and/or the indication of restrictive lung impairment.
  • Referral to be made using the spirometry +/- BDR and FeNO request via eRS
  • Referral will be directly bookable in to ERCH/Hull CDC

Referrals will be made through NHS electronic referrals system (ERS)

DO NOT REFER

If already diagnosed with a respiratory condition
For annual COPD/asthma reviews
Suspected or diagnosis of TB
If you are a non-prescriber
