MINOR INJURY UNITS (MIUs)

Selby Minor Injury Unit (MIU) - 01904 724305

• Opening Hours 8am – 8pm, 7 days a week, including Bank Holidays

Malton Minor Injury Unit (MIU) - 01653 693041

• Opening hours between 9am and 8pm
• Malton Urgent Care Centre is open between 9am and 8pm for patients with urgent care needs including minor illness and injuries. Patients can call NHS 111 and be booked into an appointment during these times, or drop-in and wait to be seen without the need for an appointment.
• Outside of these times patients are encouraged to call NHS111 who can assess the patient’s symptoms and arrange for them to see a GP if appropriate.

AMBULATORY CARE UNIT

Full service details/exclusion criteria and referral guidance - only available via an N3 connection 

Conditions accepted onto the unit:

• Anaemia
• Cellulitis
• Chest pain: Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) to be ruled out
• Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
• Electrolyte disturbance
• First seizure/syncope
• Headache suspected Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA)/Temporal Arteritis
• Palpitation (Arrhythmia)/Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
• Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
• Pneumonia/lower respiratory tract infection/asthma exacerbation

URGENT SAME DAY REFERRALS

Admit to CAU, Ward 18 junction 8 YDH, 7 days a week, 9am-midnight.

• Bleep SHO 699 for admissions to CAU
• Bleep registrar 602 for advice re. Management

Consider need for ambulance transport

N.B. suspected testicular torsion referrals go directly to urology; suspected appendicitis to Paediatrics (CAU)

SCARBOROUGH HOSPITAL

Patients who are referred to Scarborough Hospital go through the first assessment unit on arrival therefore patients should be advised that they will be going to hospital for assessment and not admission.
 
There is now no requirement to contact the bed office prior to referring patients, (please direct patients to the Emergency Department). In first assessment a decision is made if the patient requires:

• Admission into the main inpatient bed base
• Treatment/tests in ED prior to discharge home
• Referral into ambulatory care for further management/treatment before discharge to home.

(Approx. 40% of referrals for admission who are seen in First Assessment are discharged home).
