Guidelines on Management
Referrals for patients with a possible diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, over the age of 75, or patients who are frail, or have multiple comorbidities.

Referral Criteria/Information
- Patient presenting to GP with symptoms/signs of Parkinsonism (Bradykinesia, Rigidity, resting tremor and Postural Instability).
- Referral pre-treatment
- >75 – Elderly Medicine
- <75 – Neurology
- Aim to get waiting time for new diagnosis, to 2 – 6 weeks, depending on clinical urgency.
- Patients will have access to the Parkinson Disease Specialist Nurse regardless of whether seen by Neurologist or Geriatrician with specialist interest in Parkinson’s Disease.
- Access to specialist MDT involvement via the Parkinson’s MDT where necessary.
- Open referral/flow between neurology and elderly.
