Childhood cancer
Definition/Description
Common childhood cancers include; Neuroblastoma, Retinoblastoma, Wilm’s Tumour and Sarcoma (soft tissue and bone)
Red Flag Symptoms
Neuroblastoma
- presents with palpable abdominal mass or enlarged abdominal organ
Retinoblastoma
- absent red reflex
Wilm’s Tumour
- presents with palpable abdominal mass or enlarged abdominal organ or unexplained visible haematuria
Sarcoma (soft tissue and bone)
- if suggested by ultrasound, x-ray or other imaging
Guidelines on Management
Immediately contact the Paediatric Team on call if you suspect that a child has cancer
