- reconstruction arising from
- Trauma
- Cancer treatment
- Deformity attributable to other previous NHS treatment
OR
- treatment of functional impairment arising from
- Structural or soft tissue anatomical anomaly resulting from congenital or acquired pathological conditions
Treatment is not otherwise commissioned for personal preference on cosmetic grounds.
Summary of rationale
Cosmetic Surgery (surgery undertaken exclusively to improve appearance) is usually be excluded from NHS provision in the absence of previous trauma, disease or congenital deformity.
Congenital conditions may cause significant anatomical anomalies of the face and skull requiring surgery. That surgery is commissioned by NHS England as a specialised service and not by any ICB.
