Guidelines on Management
Engaging in talking therapy can be very beneficial. It can support people to learn how to address difficulties, develop coping strategies and resilience. It can also support individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and relationships to consider if the patterns they have developed are healthy and beneficial and if required to support them in developing healthier patterns.
NHS talking therapy treatment is short term and goal focused primary care mental health treatment using NICE guidance evidence based talking therapies which are time limited, depending on the patients current circumstances and difficulties it may not be the right time to access talking therapy especially if there are a lot of practical problems in their life such as financial issues, housing difficulties, addiction problems, these often take priority and therefore it can be difficult to focus fully on behaviour and emotional changes when there are more immediate needs.
