Hull Community Children’s Physiotherapy (Humber FT)
Definition/Description
Initial referral to children’s community physiotherapy by GPs (and permitted community referrers e.g. HVs and ANPs) initially, consultant referrals to be added at a later date,? if have access to the referral system.
To be accessed for referral to the service as per documented accepted and excluded referral criteria below.
Red Flag Symptoms
Red flag symptoms to be referred to acute services, must be screened by appropriate medical practitioner (GP or consultant team) prior to referral to physiotherapy.
Guidelines on Management
Ready, set, Go developmental universal advice to be accessed and reviewed by health visitor prior to onward referral for development delays.
Referral Criteria/Information

Referrals accepted for children between the age of 2-18/19 registered to a GP practice within the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB-03Y area.

Oncology – only accepted following discussion with Michelle Wood (HRI PT) for immunocompromised initial care
-
Post hospital discharge support (case by case)

Severe developmental delay if over the age of 2

Premature with known medical problems

Recent CP diagnosis / other genetic / neuro conditions

Palliative care
-
Gait abnormalities / foot posture associated with abnormal tone and movement patterns if over age of 2.

Mild developmental delay with specific issues detailed in referral
Do not refer
-
Under 2 years old (refer to HRI children’s physiotherapy)
-
Orthotics only (refer to orthotic or podiatry service)
-
Development co-ordination disorders / dyspraxia (no known commissioned service)

MSK conditions
-
Gait abnormalities / foot posture issues not associated with abnormal tone and movement patterns: Advise referral to Normal Variant clinics at HRI.

Children over 18 if not in full time education (refer to adult services)

Chronic pain referrals/ Chronic fatigue syndrome (signpost to private clinic in York ? Chronic Fatigue Centre - that will take GP referrals)

Respiratory conditions (respiratory service HRI)

Deconditioning / strengthening rehab with no underlying neurological cause. (refer to HRI children’s physiotherapy)

All Erbs/talipes/DHH referrals/pts go to HUTH - Hull and ER (inc. GP/hv/Cons)

Mild developmental delay (refer to ready, set, go advice)

Triage completed within 3 working days from receipt of referral to decision and booking invite completed. Rejection letter to referrer if appropriate within 3 working days of receipt of referral.
