Referral Criteria/Information

Patients requiring a Sarcoma referral have two routes to choose from:

Leeds (soft tissue sarcomas)

The Regional Sarcoma Service at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust (LTHT) look after sarcoma patients and those with soft tissue tumors from the Yorkshire region. The service consists of many health care professionals whose aim is to provide the best level of care and expertise to any patient referred to the service. They operate a multi-disciplinary clinic for assessment and management of all patients referred.

Patients where GPs suspect Sarcoma can be referred to HUTHT for direct access for imaging only. If appropriate these will go through HUTHT MDT and if positive referred to the Sarcoma MDT at LTHT for assessment and review.

Patients diagnosed with a sarcoma cancer who require surgery will have their surgery undertaken at LTHT and their follow up care such as chemotherapy/radiotherapy will continue to be delivered at HUTHT to ensure care is delivered closer to home.

When a GP practice undertakes imaging and the findings are suspicious of sarcoma a referral directly to Leeds Sarcoma Service must be made by the GP.

Referrals to Leeds must include the relevant imaging.
